Nino, MatsuKen star in live-action "Gantz" movies
Thu, October 8, 2009 (1:00am EDT)Hiroya Oku's sci-fi action manga "GANTZ" is being adapted into two live-action films planned to be released in 2011. The movies will star Arashi's Kazunari Ninomiya (26) and actor Kenichi Matsuyama (24).Source: Sponichi Annex
Shinsuke Sato is directing the films, which have reportedly been given a budget of 4 billion yen, with lots of CG involved. It is said that producers are aiming to make the film suitable for general audiences, which means that it may likely lack the violence of the original manga.
"GANTZ" has been serialized in Young Jump since 2000. Kei Kurono (Ninomiya) and Masaru Kato (Matsuyama) are two young man who should be dead after a train accident, but they are summoned back to life by an entity known as GANTZ. Under GANTZ's orders, the two are repeatedly sent on missions to fight against alien beings. So far, 26 volumes of the manga have been released in Japan, selling more than 10 million copies combined.
Although Kei and Masaru are high school students in the manga, their characters will be older in the movie. Kei has been turned into a college student looking for work, while Masaru is already working and taking care of his younger brother. The two childhood friends happen to meet again on a subway platform.
Oku's manga is still being serialized, but the two movies will tell a complete story with an original ending.
Filming is scheduled to start next month. The first movie is expected to hit theaters in winter 2011, while the second is slated for spring 2011.
Uwa! nino! this sounds very promising! I hear the manga is quite violent/gory and there's lots of nudity and sexual situations, so now I'm sort of divided because on the one hand it would be good if they make it for general audiences since it would mean more exposure for our boy and the movies might reach more people and become famous, but on the other hand... if they water down a manga that's supposed to be "edgy" to put it mildly... fans are gonna be pissed... and that's never good for manga-to-movie adaptations...
Meanwhile, if they do make the movies following the tone the manga has then, it would be very interesting to see nino in such a role.

A little news about mao-chan's Boku no Hatsukoi wo Kimi ni Sasagu movie that will come out in the fall.
Kawaii, when they say the "don" thing... awwwww. ♥
Good things come from stalking Dramabean's Blog!
A producer confirmed that rights have been acquired to adapt the novel into a movie... Since this will be the third version of this story to be told, the rep said that “the movie will show a different story from the drama.”
After the script is completed in May, the production will begin casting for its characters of Go Eun-chan, Choi Han-gyul, and the rest... The production’s plan is to begin filming in October, and aim for a February 2010 release, with simultaneous premieres in Korea, Japan, China, and Southeast Asia.

First reaction: AAAAAAAAAAAAHHHHHHHHHHHHH!!!!!!!!!!!!!! (joy)
A few seconds later: wait a minute...
Then: oh oh oh... this could go wrong...
No original cast (YEH has said no, Gong Yoo won't make it for military reasons, Lee Eon: Rest in Peace T_T).
They want to make a different product from the k-drama, that could turn out to be good, or bad, depends. What about the soundtrack? CP was a heaven for indie music... if they don't deliver on that account... it could turn ugly. Oh God, now I'm getting worried. Still, if the movie turns out to be bad, or average, or good but not great, we still have the novel and the k-drama, don't we? nothing's gonna change that ♥
Anyway, we know the story is gold, so whoever re-does it has some pretty big shoes to fill, expectations to meet, they have to make it shine, otherwise everyone is gonna laugh in their faces.
I'm beginning to see this as that, they have to make their own CP, new, fresh, awesome, comparisons WILL be inevitable, so only a product with the same, or higher, worth value will be accepted.
Now, casting... god... I can't even begin to think about that... YEH and my Yu were so amazing... who can do it equally good (or better)? and what about the princes?
Please God: let it be good.
In the book, at the end, eun chan asks han kyul if he would be more confortable with her beign more feminine (she didn't have the make-over/years-of-growing-up/becoming-a-woman k-drama eun chan had), han kyul said he definitely did not want her to change...
I hope they leave that in the movie, it's an interesting combo, because when han kyul says that he's, at the same time, saying she's wonderful as she is, he loves her no matter what, he's confortable with her looking like a cute guy, doesn't mind what people and still-strick korean society think... but it also makes me wonder... is he actually bi? would he consider that possibility? does it even matter? XD

I saw it...

Crappy pirated quality and dubbed in standard mexican spanish, but I saw it!
I wanted to wait until I could get my hands on quality, in english, but I couldn't resist.
Oh the LULZ!
The movie is better than the book. Maybe cause we didn't get to be immersed inside bella's teen-angst mind so much, maybe cause they tried to give the actual plot some presence since the beginning...
Moments, at the top of my head, that had LULZ written all over them:
- When bella walks in Biology for the first time and wardo gets a whiff of her scent.
- The sparkles! (this is the skin of a killer!)
- The morning after, wardo walks with bella to school with that smug "we totally did it" look all over him, even though they totally didn't.
- The cullens cooking italian food watching nick stellino's "cucina amore" thinking bella's gonna like that cause they assume she's "italian".
- Bella using pepper spray on james... OMG!
- Wardo and Charlie waiting for bella to come out for prom, and the following "I'll take care of her - I've heard that before" combo.
- Jacob pouncing on bella at the prom... and wardo pulling his "back off buddy" vibe.
- Watching jasper's "pained" expression in every one of the, what, 5 scenes he's in? without saying anything I might add.
Oh god, the whole movie is filled with lulz. It's great.
I can see why people are going more than once to see it.
And James and co. kick ass.
On casting comments: It was fun watching Peter Facinelli as Carlisle. And when Mike came on screen I remembered the actor, he played Joan's brother in the TV show Joan of Arcadia (show that I liked a lot).

OMG.
The movie is based on the true story of the love between Chie Nagashima, a woman who died at the age of 24 while fighting breast cancer, and her boyfriend/husband Taro Akasu. Nagashima's life was the subject of a documentary aired by TBS last July. Filming starts this October in preparation for theatrical release next May, timed to coincide with Nagashima's death anniversary.
The documentary achieved ratings of 16.6%, and the story was later published as a book that sold more than 400,000 copies. Movie offers rolled in, and producer Takashi Hirano eventually earned the consent of Nagashima's family. Last year, Hirano produced "LIFE: Tengoku de Kimi ni Aetara," a similar biopic about windsurfer Natsuki Iijima, who died of liver cancer.

Suri, you think you'll be able to watch this movie in theaters in Japan? Eita on the big screen yo.
From tokyograph:
According to a research sample taken by Oricon, women made up an estimated 66% of the audience. 32.0% of viewers were in their 20s, while 30.7% were in their 30s. Children apparently accounted for less than 20% of tickets.
The movie's theme song, which ranked #6 for the week, was able to take #1 on the daily singles chart as of Monday.
The new "Pokemon" movie also opened this weekend, ranking 2nd and pushing "Hana Yori Dango Final" into 3rd place.
