Tue, September 22, 2009 (1:21am EDT)Arashi's "All the BEST! 1999-2009" has just captured the crown for the highest sales of any album in 2009. The collection has now sold 1.240 million copies, barely passing Mr.Children's "SUPERMARKET FANTASY."Source: Oricon
"All the BEST!" sold 753,000 copies in the first week after its release on August 19, setting this year's record for first-week sales. Now, in its fifth week, it sold 40,000 more copies to push it past the 1.239 million total of Mr.Children's album. That one, however, has been on sale for 41 weeks, starting in December 2008.
Arashi already holds this year's current highest selling single ("Believe / Kumori Nochi, Kaisei" with 655,000 copies) and music DVD ("ARASHI AROUND ASIA 2008 in Tokyo" with 401,000 copies).

Fri, September 4, 2009 (3:08pm EDT)Several Johnny's Jimusho idols will participate in a television mini-drama project on Fuji TV. Titled "0 Goushitsu no Kyaku," the show will consist of six stories, each lasting for a month. The weekly episodes will be 15 minutes long.
The drama is set in a city hotel called Point, where there is a strange "Room 0" that can reveal one's "grade" as a human being. Various guests with different circumstances visit the room, hoping to determine their own worth.
The first story stars Arashi's Satoshi Ohno as a salaryman who visits the room with a kyabakura hostess, only to discover that she gets a higher grade than he does.
In the second story, Kanjani8's Ryuhei Maruyama and Shota Yasuda play a comedy duo. Although they get along well, they can't find success together, so they visit the room to measure themselves.
The rest of the stories will be led by Shigeaki Kato (NEWS), Shingo Murakami (Kanjani8), Keiichiro Koyama (NEWS), and Shigeru Joshima (TOKIO), in that order. Yu Yokoyama (Kanjani8) will appear throughout the entire series as the storyteller.
The project will start with Ohno's story on October 23. Fuji TV will air the show late on Friday nights, at 1:05am.Source: Sankei Sports.

Wed, July 8, 2009 (3:13am EDT)Arashi's 27th single, "Everything," took #1 on the charts this week with over 342,000 copies sold. With this, Arashi has the three best first-week single sales of 2009: "Ashita no Kioku / Crazy Moon" (502,487), "Believe / Kumori Nochi, Kaisei" (501,988), and "Everything" (342,070).
TVXQ's new single also did well at 182,000 in sales, taking the #2 spot. flumpool, C-ute, Gackt, and John-Hoon also made the top ten with new songs.
In the album charts, Masaharu Fukuyama easily captured #1 with "Zankyo," his first original album in close to three years. "Zankyo" sold 261,000 copies, far more than the latest from the band SID, who landed at #2 with 71,000 in sales. The rest of the top ten was fairly quiet, with only Toshihide Baba breaking in at #10 with a new album. Unsurprisingly, Michael Jackson's "King of Pop" compilation surged up to #4.
Meanwhile, Hayao Miyazaki made some news on the DVD charts, as "Gake no Ue no Ponyo" moved a little more than half a million copies in its first week. This is not unusual for Miyazaki, whose movies have now topped the DVD charts seven times. "Ponyo" also happened to be the top grossing film of 2008, taking in roughly 15.4 billion yen at the box office.Source: Oricon
Three oh is a magic number, yeah it is, it's a magic number...
This achievement is nothing new for EXILE - they also achieved the highest sales in the first half of 2008.
In individual album sales, Mr.Children's "SUPERMARKET FANTASY" ranked #1, as it was the only one to break a million. This is the group's third time leading first-half album sales, tying them with Yosui Inoue for the male artist record.
In individual singles, Arashi managed to capture both #1 and #2, which was last achieved by Hikaru Genji in 1988. "Believe / Kumori Nochi, Kaisei" led the way with 646,000 sold, followed by "Ashita no Kioku / Crazy Moon" with 556,000 sold.
Arashi also had the #1 DVD of 2009's first half, as "ARASHI AROUND ASIA 2008 in Tokyo" moved 355,000 copies. This is the first time that a music DVD has topped the rankings.

J-pop's first heavy metal cover album
Tue, April 21, 2009 (3:33am EDT)June 24 marks the release of "Cover Metal Now," described as J-pop's first ever heavy metal cover album. The collection features unexpected renditions of 10 top-selling hits, such as GReeeeN's "Aiuta" and Ayaka's "Mikazuki."Source: Sports Hochi
The covers are performed by the trio Dr. Metal Factory, which was temporarily formed for just a week to record this album. The group's vocalist is Nobuo Yamada, also known as NoB of the band MAKE-UP that became famous for the "Saint Seiya" theme song "Pegasus Fantasy." He is joined by Shara (formerly of EARTHSHAKER) and HAL氏.
LOL! I wanna hear this, it makes me so curious, (plus it comes out after my birthday XD).
J-pop has a certain sound to it that's very defined, while j-rock also has a vibe that's very noticeable, I wonder how one can go to the other... This reminds me of some covers I've heard before, like... remember that Madonna's Papa don't preach cover Kelly Osbourne did with Incubus? yeah, like that... XD

Sat, April 11, 2009 (12:12am EDT)Arashi's Kazunari Ninomiya (25) and actress Mao Inoue (22) will co-star in a drama special on TBS. The story is based on two novels written by professional windsurfer Natsuki Iijima, who died of cancer in 2005.
During Iijima's battle with cancer, he wrote an essay titled "Gan ni Ikasarete," which formed part of the basis for the 2007 film "Tengoku de Kimi ni Aetara," a biography of Iijima that starred Takao Osawa and Misaki Ito. Around the same time, Iijima penned a novel also titled "Tengoku de Kimi ni Aetara," as well as a sequel titled "Kamisama ga Kureta Namida." The drama special is based on those two books, which sold more than 450,000 copies combined.
The drama is also being called "Tengoku de Kimi ni Aetara." Ninomiya plays the main character, a psychiatrist working in the counseling room of a cancer treatment center by the beach. While tending to the patients, part of his job involves taking dictation from them when they want to send a letter to a loved one.
Inoue plays the psychiatrist's wife and mother to the couple's twin daughters. Other cast members include Nobuko Miyamoto as a nurse, Yusuke Santamaria as a surgeon, and Naoto Ogata as the owner of a surf shop.
The broadcast date for the drama has not yet been determined.Source: Sponichi Annex
